Alladale Wilderness Reserve: Preservation and Conservation
Alladale, which has achieved recognition in the National Geographic’s “Best of the World: six places to rediscover nature for 2021 and beyond” round up, is not only a high end eco friendly hotel but also a conservation and rewilding site. Alladale has undertaken several ambitious projects focusing on the recovery of threatened species, conservation, and land management. This includes: the Scottish wildcat captive breeding project, Red Squirrel translocation, Golden/White Tailed Sea Eagle nesting site creation, and peatland restoration. Maintaining biodiversity is crucial in fighting climate change, as our association with different species gives us reference points for how the climate may be changing. Changes in species behaviour gives us indications in changes in temperature, while keeping species populations high contributes to a balanced ecosystem. We should also want to protect species because it is the right, virtuous thing to do - they deserve a healthy, thriving planet as much as we do.
